You can also enter Bhutan using Bhutan airlines from Bangkok (every day), Delhi, Kolkotta, Kathmandu (thrice a week) and from Gaya (once a week).Bhutan also has three domestic airports; Bumthang in the central, Gelephu in the south and Yongphula in the east. The domestic flight is operated three times every week on Tuesday, Thursday and Sunday.
Travelling to Bhutan via car is one of the common means used by the visitors. It not only gives treat to the eyes but fills one’s inner being with calm and tranquillity while passing through the green gigantic mountains.
There are three entry points for the travellers who wish to make visit to Bhutan through India viz, – Phuentsholing( Jaigaon ), Gelephu and Samdrup Jongkhar. Most of the travellers enter through Phuentsholing via road which is about 170 kms from Bagdogra in West Bengal. Bagdogra to phuntsholing is the shortest route compared to rest of the entry points. It easily accessible and one can even halt in Bagdogra for a night before heading towards Bhutan.
From there one can hire private taxis from various places such as Bagdogra Airport or Siliguri stand. The travel fares will be between 2000 to 3000 INR. Phuentsholing shares the border with Jaigaon ( border town of India). Once you get there, the journey to Thimphu will take about 3 to 4hours. You will really enjoy the beauty of nature as you cross various sub-tropical areas and the alpine zones. All in all, for those who look forward to the wonderful journey, I bet a road trip will surely be an exhilarating way to get to Bhutan. You can also travel to Bhutan from Kolkata by bus. There are direct buses from Esplanade Station in Kolkata.It will take you directly to Phuentsholing which shares the border with Jaigaon ( border town of India). The bus journey is about 18 hours from Kolkata but only about 4 hours, from Siliguri. A comfortable trip in a bus is assured as the buses are timely maintained. Moreover, the buses are rn by the Royal Bhutan Government.
