Bhutan observes many festivals and the most celebrated festival is “Tshechu” which is celebrated on the tenth day of a month of the Lunar Calendar corresponding to the birth of Guru Rinpoche. The exact tenth month depends from temple to temple and place to place and this is why ‘Tshechu’ is celebrated on different dates and months in various parts of the country.

 “Tshechu” is a religious festival and there are so many mask dances and religious activities that happen during this event. Every the mask dance that is performed during this event, has deep meaning, signs, and significances. These dances are performed by monks and in remote places, it is performed jointly by monks and local people. Bhutanese people attend this important festival to witness the mask dances, to receive the blessing from the Divine and also to cleanse themselves from their sins. Thimphu and Paro Tshechu is the most popular interns of Audience and participation.
